**NY Post** CANADIAN celebrities were thrilled yesterday when ice skating pair Jamie Sale and David Pelletier
were awarded a second set of Olympic gold medals and tainted French judge Marie-Reine Le Gougne was suspended. But many
remained furious over the initial victory by Russians Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze. Vanity Fair
editor Graydon Carter said of yesterday's belated justice, "Thank God, because you don't want to get those Canadian
figure skaters angry." A handful of Canadian showbiz types -including Mike Myers and Jim Carrey - oddly
declined to take a stand. But others were more than happy to vent. "I find this situation devastating and unacceptable,"
pop star Celine Dion told PAGE SIX. "These athletes train all their lives for the chance to compete for the
gold medal at the Olympics. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Regarding Gougne, Dion raged: "When
you are an Olympic judge, you have the responsibility to be fair and act professionally. Nothing outside of the athletes'
performance should influence your vote. As [husband] Rene [Angelil] and I watched our fellow Canadians compete that
night, we were so moved by their performance. We were sure they had won and were devastated when the decision was
announced. "I am so proud of how [Sale and Pelletier] have handled the situation," Dion said. "These
two incredible athletes demonstrated the true spirit of the Olympics as they stood there on the podium with their silver
medals and bouquet of flowers. They had tears in their eyes and they knew in their hearts that they had won. And
the whole world did, too."
Two years ago, I did an interview with superstar Celine Dion in which she startled the entertainment world with news that
she was taking time off from her singing career, that she wanted to have a baby. On Friday's program, you'll meet that baby,
now a year old, as Celine sits down with me for her first television interview since stepping off the public stage. She talks
with me in Palm Beach about her sabbatical, her family and her future. Celine faced some powerful challenges during
her extended timeout. Her son, Rene-Charles, was born through in vitro fertilization. And while she was trying to have the
baby, her husband, Rene, was diagnosed with throat cancer, and was treated with radiation and chemotherapy. Rene is now recovering
well, and the baby is thriving. Celine's happiness is obvious, and she shares some surprising news about her professional
life. She has just signed an unprecedented new contract, providing her with an opportunity to perform regularly while maintaining
a normal family life. You will hear her sing for the first time ?even before it is played on the radio ?her new song, "A
New Day Has Come." -Barbara Walters
* DION TO PREVIEW NEW SET WITH TV SPECIAL * 2 January 2002: by Chuch Taylor Cline Dion's first English-language
studio album since 1997's "Let's Talk About Love" will be previewed a week before its release during with
a one-hour network television musical special, Billboard Bulletin reports. The album "A New Day Has Come"
is set for worldwide release March 11 on Epic, and will contain songs produced by David Foster, Robert "Mutt"
Lange, Christopher Neil, Humberto Gatica, Walter Afanasieff, and Ric Wake, among others. The first single, which
will be released to radio in late January, is slated to be the title cut, a ballad written by Aldo Nova and Stephan Moccio
and produced by Afanasieff. "I hope this album will be soothing, a little shoulder to lean on," Dion tells
Bulletin. "A New Day Has Come" will be a precursor to Dion's three-year, 600-show engagement at Caesar's
Palace in Las Vegas, to debut in March 2003. She will perform in a theatrical presentation directed by Franco Dragone
(Cirque du Soleil) at a 4,000-seat venue designed like the Roman Coliseum and built especially for her show. Billboard
will publish the first interview in two years with Dion in the Jan. 26, 2002, issue. [Source: Billboard.com]
* CLINE HUBBY LOSES 6 MILLION IN VEGAS SPREE * 3 January 2002: By Michael Booker Singer Cline Dion's
move to Las Vegas looks a gamble too far - after her husband blew 6 million playing cards. The Canadian superstar's
other half, music manager Ren Anglil, is a regular at card tables in the gaming capital of the US. Friends say he
has frittered away 6 million so far - and fear he could lose more when Cline begins a three-year theatre run at
his old gambling haunt of Caesar's Palace. She plans to move to the town permanently with her husband - meaning temptation
will be on his doorstep. US sources say Anglil, 59, also lost 3 million in one massive spree back in 1997, playing blackjack
for 141 hours. And he is said to have stunned fellow punters by staking 26,000 for each hand during a 30-hour gambling
marathon in December 2000. One worried pal said: "He's by no stretch of the imagination the biggest gambler
at Vegas, but he hardly ever wins. Ren has been gambling for as long as he and Cline have been together. He never
tried to hide it." Ren was said to have eased off on his gambling after having treatment for throat cancer two
years ago. Wife Cline, 33, decided to stop touring after giving birth to their first child, Ren Charles, early last
year. But she agreed to star in a theatre show in Vegas in a 70 million deal. Cline - who scored a huge hit with
'My Heart Will Go On', the theme to top movie "Titanic" - will make her comeback in March 2003. [Source:

hits collection "Essential Barbra Streisand" and it comes out January 29. * CLINE AND REN ON THE
COVER OF THE STAR TABLOID MAGAZINE * 5 January 2002: Cline and Ren are on the cover of the Jan. 15th issue of
the Star tabloid magazine (US). The article is about Ren and how he blew $9 million in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. It
sounds very similar to the article posted from the UK tabloid. However, this one also talks about Cline's thoughts
on Ren's gambling. According to the magazine, Cline could care less. "It's his money and he can do what he
wants with it." Also, it says Cline goes shopping while Ren gambles. You can find scans of the 2 page article
at The Power Of Cline. * SOUS LE VENT * 7 January 2002: The Cline Star Plantaire web site has a clip of
the making of the "Sous Le Vent" video. Looks like Cline and Garou had a crazy time on that set! To
download the video, go to * SHOOTING OF THE VIDEO FOR A NEW DAY HAS COME * 13 January 2002: In the
magazine 7 Jours Annie Horth (Cline's stylist) says that the shooting of the video for "A New Day Has Come"
will be taking place in a couple of weeks in Florida. She also says that Cline will not have a major change in her
image, and her hair length should probably be the same length as when she was doing the Millennium concert. Annie
has also gone to the photograph studio with a few other specialists to pick photos to use for the new album and
the marketing campaign. The article in the magazine has also suggested that Cline may appear at Garou's concert at Molson
Center on May 25th to perform "Sous Le Vent" again. * RELEASE DATE OF A NEW DAY HAS COME * Some
sources mention that the new single, "A New Day Has Come", will be released on Feb. 5th. However, this has
not been officially confirmed yet. So far we haven't heard anything more about the press release that was announced
earlier on CelineDion.com. * COMPETING FOR BIG INTERVIEWS LOSES APPEAL, SAYS BARBARA WALTERS * 14 January
2002: PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Barbara Walters is known for competing ferociously for big interviews, but she said that's
changed since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. "Do I want to do the good stories? Yes," she said on Sunday.
"Do I die if I don't get them? ... No, I don't. And it's not that I care less about the program, but it just
isn't that important to me. And since Sept. 11, it is much less important to me." The veteran ABC newswoman has
filmed a New York City tourism commercial that jokingly depicts her trying out for a Broadway musical. She's slowly
getting back into celebrity interviews, preparing a piece on singer Cline Dion. She will also do her annual interview
show with actors before the Academy Awards. But Walters said she can't believe there's anyone whose perspective
about their job hasn't changed since Sept. 11. "I've even sometimes said to (ABC News president) David (Westin),
`So what, we lost it.' I mean, it's a story. It's not the end of the world." [Source: Canadian Press]

* CLINE'S NEW DAY * January 22, 2002: Cline has been interviewed by the 26 Jan. issue of Billboard
magazine. It offers a lot of tantalising information about Cline's forthcoming album, "A New Day Has Come",
as well as giving a detailed outline of the last 2 years of Cline's life, plus information about the Las Vegas show
which will be running from March 2003. Here are some snippets from the article: Cline wants "A New Day
Has Come" to be "soothing". "If people need a partner, a helping hand, to cry, to dance, whatever
it is, I want it to be like a little shoulder to lean on. As we all know, the world is going through a lot."
Sony is planning a global marketing campaign of unparalleled proportions to support the record, including a tidal
wave of TV, print and online exposure. At the top of the list is an hour-long network TV music special, scheduled
to air the week of the album's release. Dion will begin promotion in Europe, followed by stops in the U.S. and
England; trips to Australia, Japan, South America, and Asia are pending. Dion struggled over an appropriate image
for the cover of the album, feeling that a portrait reflecting her good fortune was in poor taste ... [she] suggested
to Sony that the album cover not include her picture. However, after much discussion, in late December, noted New
York City photographer Melvin Sokolsky shot a montage of Dion where several different angles of her face will convey
various emotions. Because of Dion's unwillingness to either leave her baby or tow him around the world at only 7
months old, the album's collaborators flew to her, a move that few artists have the clout to demand. The new man
in town is Anders Bagge, a top Swedish songwriter and producer who has worked with the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Sheryl
Crow, Jessica Simpson, Gwen Stefani, and Enrique Iglesias. "We're planning everything and the kitchen sink
to spread the word about this album," Epic U.S. VP of marketing Randy Irwin says. "It comes down to one
word: visibility. We intend to make sure the pipeline goes absolutely everywhere." A press conference is scheduled
for the day of U.S. release in New York City, where the album will be showcased and Dion will conduct interviews
with a convergence of invited international print and broadcast press. She will also make an in-store appearance at
one of the city's major record retailers. Cover stories in TV Guide and Redbook are confirmed, and appearances
on at least one network morning show and a host of nighttime talk and news shows are in the works. When Dion travels
to Europe she will tape a separate TV special for the French market and will again meet with as much press from
across the continent as time allows. Dion's baby - now 1 year old - will accompany his mom and dad around the
world. Paul Marabito, a buyer for Compact Disc World in South Plainfield, N.J., says "The industry could really
use a bump right now, and I think Cline is the one to do it." Dion reveals that she and Anglil hope to have
a second child by the time her contract with Caesars ends in March 2006. In fact, she reels off her vision for much
of the rest of the decade: "What I want now is three years in Las Vegas, another break, we try to have another
child, we enjoy life. If the opportunity comes to do a really great movie, I would like that. By then, I'm almost 40
years old." [Source: www.billboard.com] * A NEW DAY HAS COME TRACKLISTING * "A New Day
Has Come": The sparkling title track is among the delicate, understated songs Dion has recorded. Against a finespun
sweep of strings and piano, she sings of a great presence coming into her life, turning weakness to strength. "For
me, this represents the birth of my child," she says. "I waited so long for my miracle to come. Nothing
can ever come close to that. But it can mean different things for anyone who has to find strength again. I think it's
very positive". Produced by Walter Afanasieff. "I'm Alive": From the team that wrote "That's
The Way It Is", this is one of the lighter, brighter moments on the set, with a beat that beckons with tribal
urgency. "It's cute, it's fun, it's fresh," Dion offers. "You don't have to listen to the lyric to enjoy
it. I'm alive, that's enough". "Nature Boy": Just a piano and Dion mark this mature composition
first make famous by Nat "King" Cole. "This is the one I had the most kick out of in the studio,"
Dion says. "I could hear the pedal of the piano and the touch of the keys while I was singing. We were following
each other. It's the real thing." Strings and other instruments were added to plump up the mix in post-production,
but then stripped back off to maintain the song's simplicity and purity. "This was such my pleasure".
"Surrender": The album's bombastic, heart-pounding, signature Cline Dion ballad, produced by David Foster.
"It's big, my gosh," Dion says with a laugh. "I always need one of these." She sings of forbidden
love amid a firestorm of utterly volcanic instrumentation. "Goodbye's The Hardest Word": A devastatingly emotional
ballad about the death of one's mother. Dion first heard the Robert John "Mutt" Lange song three years
ago and turned it down. "Now, being a mother, I found the strength to sing it," she says, "but it was
hard." It's lesson: "Never wait too long to tell someone how you feel." "Sorry For Love":
Written with a host of Swedish heavyweights, including Anders Bagge, who has penned hits for Kylie Minogue and Enrique
Iglesias. A bull's-eye dancefloor throwdown that has no parallel in Dion's catalogue, complete with a 12-second anthemic
note that puts the "d" in diva. "I usually go for the heart, but not this time. I want them to dance,"
Dion says. An unquestionable single. "At Last": "I can see beginning my show and looking into everyone's
eyes and singing this song: I'm happy to be back, and life is like a song," Dion says. "This is my hello."
Glenn Miller originated the song in 1941; Etta James, among others, also recorded it. Simple, garnished with fiddle,
and a vocal that sounds like it was captured from the church rafters" Chuck Taylor [Source: Billboard]
* THE MOST LUCRATIVE ARTIST IN EUROPE * By Marc Gadoury: Cline Dion, who records in both French and English,
is the most lucrative artist in Europe according to figures revealed by the International Federation of Phonographic
Industry. Cline has notched up sales of eight albums going 33 x platinum (1 x platinum is a million copies) during
the last six years, which places it far in front of Madonna, in second position, with five albums going 17 x platinum.

(Recording Industry Association of America) has just certified "The Collector's Series Volume One" for platinum
status in the USA (1 million units shipped to retailers). It is quite an achievement since the album has received
absolutely no promotion whatsoever since its release 15 months ago. [Source: queenceline.com] * HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
REN-CHARLES! * January 25, 2002: Today is Cline and Ren's son, Ren-Charles, 1st birthday! A very happy birthday
to you Ren-Charles! * CLINE AND REN NAMED THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN QUBEC * January 26, 2002: In the
entertainment industry, influence is an art used either backstage, by people with economic or politic power, or on
stage when artists move all over. Prepared by the Arts and Entertainment section of the Montreal newspaper La Presse,
Cline and Ren are at the top of the list of the most influential people in Qubec. She, on stage, he, backstage,
Cline Dion and Ren Anglil have knocked down every door, have gone up through the ranks, and put Qubec on the map
of the entertainment world. Cline is, at 33, the best-selling French-speaking recording artist. The only one to have
conquered the difficult market of the USA. Her manager and husband is considered to be one of the most powerful
persons in the North American entertainment world. "Ren has opened many doors, he can't be ignored,"
says Aldo Giampaolo, director of the Molson Center and long-time friend of the Dion-Anglil couple. "He is one of
the most influential persons in the North American showbiz world along with Guy Laliberte (Cirque Du Soleil). I
don't think he realises how powerful he is." Without the support of Ren and Cline, mentions the Molson Center
director, his Theatre at the Forum project would have never seen the light of day. "I would have never been able
to sell the idea to the Americans if Ren hadn't been part of the project and if Cline hadn't sang," says Giampaolo.
Two years away from the spotlight have past and it hasn't affected the singer's popularity. Each of her rare public
appearances has caused an enormous interest from the public. However, her short hiatus was a good opportunity to
measure her astronomical European sales over the Qubec artistic community. Combined to the Notre Dame de Paris effect,
Cline Dion's triumph has built a new bridge between Qubec and France. Think about Lara Fabian, Garou and Isabelle Boulay,
who have all released albums sold at more than one million copies overseas. "Felix Leclerc was the first one
to make it in France, then there was the influence of Robert Charlebois and Diane Dufresne, believes Anglil. Cline
opened a third door because, before her, singers with strong voice weren't popular in France. Then there were many
more of them and they were all from Qubec." What's going on with the "Clinemania" in the USA? "Nobody
wanted to give us a chance to succeed in the United States, remembers Ren Anglil. Now, American companies are listening
to demos from Qubec and French singers, would you believe! At least, they're listening to them." According
to an annual chart by the Canadian Business magazine, Cline is in the 91st position among the wealthiest people in the
country. Her wealth is estimated at $295 million. More than the Molson family, more than the popular actor Jim
Carrey. "But it's success that gives power in the entertainment industry, not money," mentions Ren Anglil.
"Someone like me can open doors because of his experience and Cline's success," he says. "I can call
anyone in the entertainment world and they'll take my call. That's the advantage." In revenge, the manager
denies having the same power over the media. "If you only knew how much it angers me when I hear that,"
says a furious Ren Anglil. Adding 15 minutes to his interview with Paul Arcand last fall, was a decision made by both
parties who thought it'd be ridiculous not to mention the terrorist's attacks since the show was telecasted a few
days after the September 11 events. What about the famous "7 Jours" magazine's edition where he had the
front page changed? "Do you think they changed it for my good look? No. They realised they had been greedy."
Their weight, their connections and their team, Cline Dion and Ren Anglil have used them to promote Garou for more
than a year now with the results we already know. Almost 3 million albums sold, not counting the singles, the ex-Quasimodo
has become a fully-fledged star and will target soon the American market. "I won't be alive forever, says Ren
Anglil, and I want my experience to be beneficial for him." As for Cline, she's preparing her return. Her new
album, "A New Day Has Come" is completed and will come out March 26. In March 2003, she'll take residence
in Las Vegas in a 4000-seat concert hall currently under construction and especially built for her show. "It'll
be a never-before-seen show, mentions Ren Anglil. There'll be 65 artists on stage with Cline. A completely new challenge."
